Podcast Bunker Exclusive Tip - The Clip Tip !

This is a little tip I came up with long time ago.
This is is for use mainly with XLR connectors due to the locking mode
they are in when connected.

When shooting video with your microphone connected to the camera on a long cable, i.e.
at a press conference, when the camera is in the back of the room and the microphone
is up on the table in the front. Of course if you use wireless microphones this is a non-issue.

This tip also works with audio recorders, especially when using XLR connecters on the recorder
and microphone.

The purpose of this tip is to avoid your camera or recorder from being pulled over from the tripod
and crashing to the floor, or your audio recorder from being jerked off a table
when someone passes by and catches a foot on your cable. It can happen quickly, and can cost you hundreds if not thousands of dollars in damage. You can say "Watch that cable" all day long, but the one time your not looking,or have stepped away (unclipped) is when it happens.

To prevent this disaster, the cost all  the supplies is under $10.00 at your local hardware store (that's if you have local hardware store left) if not, you'll have to journey into what shut them all down, a Lowes or Home Depot. I try to visit ACE Hardware stores when ever possible, just to keep the little man going.
Okay lets grab the parts.

1. Carabiner ($3.00) (You don't need one that you can climb Everest with.)
2. 2 feet of nylon cord ( 1/2 inch diameter cord) ($2.00)
3. Electrical tape ($2.50)

I used the orange cord in this example for easy visibility.
Tie 2 pieces of cord about a foot long each to the Carabiner.

In the second shot you see where the electrical tape has been used
to tape the cord to the cable. Now all is left is to clip it to a belt loop.
And you're ready to shoot or record your project.

Depending on how bad they trip over your cord, which I hope you have duct taped down to prevent this as much as possible from happening, and how well you have your microphone mouted at the remote location, you should survive these incidents with flying colors and just feel a small tug  on your belt loop. Every time
you feel that tug, just think about The Podcast Bunker and tell a friend :>)

Please use caution when using this tip, and remember that you are connected to your recording system, so unclip before walking off or you will be the cause of the problem.

This should only be used when everyone takes their position for an audio recording or video shoot.
Using this tip comes with much experience in these situations, so please use with caution.

Hope you find this tip helpful & use it with caution - Bruce from The Podcast Bunker
